Fun Facts about The Opeth Pack Books

Over the years it take an author to write a series, there are bound to be some interesting facts that readers may find when the author releases this information for public consumption.  Things such as who inspired what character, or a particular scene, come out.  Sharing a little about the Opeth Pack endears this series more to me, so hopefully you'll dig it more too.

  • •Both Jozsi and Nicholaus were based off Vin Diesel, and in the same role no doubt.  Just different movies.

  • •Lukina's inspiration is the same as Kissa from another series I started, and can be found in "Lashway's Lease, a short erotic story in a bisexual collection entitled Room for One More

  • •The more I write Selene's character, the more I realize she's based on my mentor.

  • •With the exception of Jozsi's apartments in Clear Lake and downtown Houston, I've lived in all the dwellings mentioned.  Eva's house is real and was inhabited by rodents while we lived in Hayward.  The Pimp pad Nicholaus lives in is actually located at the corner of 6th Ave and Central Ave (formerly Route 66) in Albuquerque, NM.

  • •Said loft was also used as Iolite's home in Torn to Pieces.

  • •With a business associate, I spent a lot of time at said loft getting drunk.  Yes we were working and that's where the bulk of Raining Kisses was written.

  • •Ronan Harris is the front man for EBM group VNV Nation.  I'm actually a huge fan but when I was writing Kisses Fall, Eva needed a villain and Mr. Harris's looks fit the bill.  He still hasna't been killed yet, despite being touched by the Flower Maiden.

  • •Since there was such a lull between writing the first three books and revisiting them once SCP bought the series, the musical soundtrack changed.  Drastically.  Most of what I listened to featured The Gathering, Geoff Tate, and Tool, while there was also a lot of EBM on heavy rotation.  The rewrites basically had me listening to pure death metal, and Progressive Djent Metal. I still can't account for why the change.

  • •People always want to know, so yes.  There is a bit of me in Jozsi and Nicholaus but that's as far as I wrote myself in, on purpose.  Everyone else is based on an ideal, or my secret character stash, save Les

  • •Les is based on a hard money lender I know in San Ramon, CA.

  • •Originally the cigars the wolves smoked were Cuesta Reys, then they were changed to Diamond Crown before I finally settled on the Don Cervvantes from ACC Cigars. At one point, the cigars were Cubans but I opted for Don Cervantes, I prefer their quality to non aged Cubans.

  • •While pictures were used to jog my memories, I have visited the Lake Balaton region of Hungary, as I have also traveled through Budapest. My background is Hungarian.

  • •It seems that Jozsi has gone from being like Riddick, to being like Nucky Thompson from Boardwalk Empire, in Fall Into Love

  • •The original title of Fall into Love was "Fall Into Us."  I needed to change the title so I could circle around to Les's book, titled "Haunted."

  • •Originally, it was His Rain, which is why Raining Kisses is book two.  My editor at the previous publisher suggested the change.

  • •Not only did I write two soldiers into Fall Into Love, I wrote a deeply loved one into the story, not realizing how much I'd grown to miss her even though she's always watching.  Who is it?  That's a secret I'm taking to the grave!

  • •Fall Into Love was written over the course of about two months mostly late at night thanks to the encouragement of the Facebook NIGHT WRITERS group.  It feels odd editing it during the day when I'm not drinking whiskey, and it's light outside, when most of the book was written under strained wrists and during the hours of 11:45 PM to 3 AM, seven days a week.

  • •During the last week of finishing the first draft of Fall into Love, I fought my wrists as they threatened to freeze since I'd been averaging 3,000 words a night on top of social media duties and editor duties for three different houses.

  • Genesis is The Beginning, and the name of Les's mate for a reason.

  • Odd drinking fact:  I had to switch liquors for a few scenes in the previous book, from whiskey to Slivovitz (brandy) and I couldn't write until I switched back.  Creature of habit much?

  • Yeah there's a little BDB in this series.  Only I go harder than JR Ward.
