The Wolf's Rain Connection

A rewviewer recently pointed out that Wolf Magic read very much like something he or she would expect if this were from the anime Wolf's Rain. They in fact would be right, and that was on purpose.  When I was living in Texas, I saw the anime on Adult Swim and despite the sadness and depressing bit that is the series, I fell in love.  The music, the world, the characters and their ultimatea struggle fascinated me.

But I felt honestly that the anime left a number of unanswered questions such as who the hell WERE the Nobles and why did they want Paradise?  Where was this Paradise based on and who was their creator?  And why were wolves portrayed as they were?  And I'm speaing solely of the show, not any associated content.  And the Wiki was NOT around when the series was created, nor was it around when I first penned Wolf Magic.

I picked up the "what if" game writers so frequently use to create novels and threw in a heavy, hearty dose of romance to create the Opeth Pack Saga, (and yes, I took the name directly from the Progressive Death Metal band of the same name, Mikhail makes good music!) and make it into something deeper that readers of romance would embrace.

Many of the things in the anime weren't explained I felt, such as Lord Darcia III's eye (the same trait I gave Les) or how Toboe ended up with the collar.  Admittedly I may have missed that last one.  While there are similarities and blatantly open rip offs, I hope you'll find that without the anime, this series can stand on its own apart from the anime.

By giving this a spin with the Hungarian Fertility Goddess and explaining why the wolves were kicked out of Heaven, I think I've added another level of depth.  And as many writers do, I based characters in the series off the anime, but ONLY Kiba.  THe others have completely different models as you've seen from the Meet the Pack section.

Besides, there was no hot sex or menage in Wolf's Rain!  HA!
